Our goal...

The goal of the Coaching Committee is that every team has at least a "F" licensed coach. Once the coach is licensed, we hope he or she will continue their education through the "E/D" level.

District IX Coach Licensing Policy

The goal for District IX is to have all of our coaches obtain the USSF coaching license that corresponds to the age and level of the team they are coaching. By implementing and upholding this goal, District IX hopes to provide our coaches with the necessary teaching skills that will help improve the technical and tactical skills of the players they will coach, and in turn keep our youth players playing the game.

Subject to the exceptions noted in the transition (grace) periods outlined below, coaches must be licensed in accordance with the provisions below.

Head Coaches

  • There are no licensing requirements for Under 6 Recreational Head Coaches.
  • Head Coaches at the Under 8 Recreational level through Under 19 Recreational level are required to have at least a USSF F license. It is strongly recommended that Head Coaches at the Under 10 through Under 19 levels have at least a USSF E License.
  • Head Coaches at the Under 10 Competitive level through Under 19 Competitive level are required to have at least a USSF E license. It is strongly recommended that Head Coaches at the Under 12 Competitive through Under 19 Competitive levels have at least a USSF D License.

Assistant Coaches

  • There are no licensing requirements for Recreational Assistant Coaches. Assistant Coaches at the Under 12 Recreational level through Under 19 Recreational level are strongly recommended to have at least a USSF F license.
  • Assistant Coaches at the Under 10 Competitive level through Under 19 Competitive level are required to have at least a USSF F license. It is strongly recommended that Assistant Coaches at the Under 10 Competitive through Under 19 Competitive levels have at least a USSF E License.

Grace period for new coaches and returning coaches advancing their license

  • During the periods outlined below, coaches are allowed to be rostered to teams. This grace period is for both head coaches and assistant coaches.
  • New coaches (coaches that have not coached in the past 5 years) are required to obtain their appropriate USSF License within 12 months of being approved on a roster.
  • Returning coaches holding the appropriate USSF License will be given 12 months to show advancement in their license corresponding with the age level they are coaching. In other words, a coach holding a USSF F license and moving up from U10 or U12 to a Competitive team, must obtain a USSF E license within 12 months of being approved on a Competitive roster.

Existing CYSA License Status

  • Coaches holding an existing CYSA F or E license will be considered as holding an equivalent USSF F license. Coaches holding a CYSA E/D license in any form (complete or temporary) will be considered as holding a USSF E License.
